Effect of severe plastic deformation process on microstructure and mechanical properties ofAlSi/SiC composite

AlSi11 matrix composites reinforced with SiC particles have been fabricated by high pressure die casting assisted ultrasonic mixing. Severe plastic deformation process was performed on the as cast AlSi/2wt.%SiC composite using modified channel twisted output (TCAP) at three temperatures of 350, 400 and 450 °C. The TCAP tool consists helical part in horizontal area allowing for simulation back thus resulted increase extrusion force local deformation. most important issue presented investigations to refine dendritic microstructure prepared during one pass TCAP. As a result, containing equiaxed α(Al) grains few microns depending temperature β(Si) about 1 μm size twinned structure produced. dynamic recrystallization °C manifested grain growth decrease dislocation density observed affect sample hardness causing its decrease. mechanical properties extruded were measured compression testes maximum 35% compressive strength near 300 MPa observed. These values similar all samples between 350 generally are better comparing AK11 alloy subjected different processes.
